Australian Scholarships 2009
The Australian Government invites applications from qualified Sri Lankan citizens to study at Masters and Doctoral level in Australia, in 2009. A small number of Vocational and TechnicalEducation scholarships are also available under the Endeavour award program.
Australian Scholarships will bring together under one banner three major Scholarship Programs. They are:
Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) – Only Sri Lankan government employees are eligible to apply. Applicants must be under 45 years with excellent undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications and have at least 2 years work experience. Applicants must also have a minimum IELTS overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0. Scholarships are for Masters level studies only.
Priority areas of study are Education, Environment (Natural Resources Management), Peace Building and Conflict transformation. Half the number of scholarships on offer under ADS are reserved for women.
Applications must be forwarded through the applicant’s Ministry to the Department of External Resources, Ministry of Finance and Planning on or before 21 July 2008.
Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) - Scholarships are for those who have the potential to assume leadership roles that can influence social and economic policy reform and development outcomes in Sri Lanka and the region. ALAs are for masters and doctoral level studies. Both government and private sector employees are eligible to apply. Successful candidates will participate in a unique Leadership Development Program.
Awards are open to all fields of study, although study programs relating to the priority themes of Disease Pandemics, Climate Change, Security and International Trade are encouraged.
Only applicants who have an unconditional offer from an Australian University are eligible to apply. Applicants should have a record of high-level undergraduate or postgraduate academic achievement. Applicants are also required to have a high level of English language proficiency (minimum 6.5 IELTS or equivalent). Queries regarding ALAs must be forwarded to <ala@ausaid.gov.au>
