Sri Lankans sent to Papua New Guinea
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) today confirmed 22 Sri Lankan nationals who arrived by boat were transferred to Papua New Guinea (PNG).
The charter flight, escorted by the Australian Federal Police, DIAC staff, interpreters and medical staff, departed Christmas Island yesterday evening.
The group arrived in PNG today and was transferred to the regional processing centre where they will be accommodated while the PNG Government processes their refugee claims.
